01/12/08 - Skate Day Road Trip
With the forecast calling for great weather for the second weekend in a row, a group of us decided it would be a great time to plan a road trip for skating. No one wanted to go too far, but we wanted a change of pace. Someone suggested hitting the Montgomery skate park, and that was that. I had never been before but had heard good things. The idea was that we would all meet up at the Alabaster skate park exit (238), hit the Montgomery park, come back around 4pm and hit our home Veterans skate park. Of all the people who claimed they would be up for the day of skating, in the end, it was Patrick Jackson, Danny, Brad Lovell and myself that made the trip. At 10:30 am, we met at Whataburger off exit 238 and the trip began.
First stop - Montgomery Skate Park
Around opening time at noon, we pulled up to the park, paid our $3 each and got down to some skating. The park was surprisingly very fun! It was also surprisingly busy. As some of the locals told us, this was the busiest they had ever seen it. Odd? There were about 50 or so folks skating, scottering, inlining, etc. Pro Photog, Montgomery local and SkateAlabama.com forum regular, Dave Campbell (DCPhotos from the SkateAlabama.com forum) even made it out for a short session before running off to work. I think we all had a great time there, but the time just flew. Before I knew it, it was 3pm and time for us to head back towards home for the second stop of the day.

Second stop - Veterans Skate Park
After getting back to Alabaster, Danny and I continued on for a little more skating out at Alabaster's Veterans Skate Park. A few folks were already out there skating including Tim Spinosi, Mark Eddings, Jason and Brad Floyd. Like always, Brad just appears every so often and just rips. He was pulling backside airs, lien-to-tails, rolling into the shallow, and handplants (VERY close to inverts!) just like he hadn't missed a day skating. It was great to see and skate with him again.
