Brook Run September OS Sessions
Wednesday Sept 12, 2007 - Old School Session night
Wednesday night in Atlanta means skating at Brook Run! Another good showing but Ray Fennessey and Martin Marshall were noticeably absent. Ray had broken his arm (again!) the week before Labor Day. Martin had knocked himself out last Friday and had stitches in his head. Lots of ripping skating went down again! The Coffman family continue to step up their game. Shawn was flying around the bowl and throwing out a few new tricks and some he was working on. Little Chris Coffman pulled his first rock and roll in the deep end...stoked! Petey was throwing down as usual. Zack, the returning ATL resident, was getting his lines down in the bowl. I believe Wes was hitting some frontside deep end grinds. But the ripper of the night award was almost a close tie....Roobs showed up wearing new 187 pads, a new helmet and a new attitude...as Wes said "Looks like someone took their cocky pills!" Roobs was hitting lines like I have never seen him do before...very cool. But it might have been the birthday boy that squeaked by for the win?Jimmy O?Brien was celebrating his 41st birthday and skating the bowl like he was a man half that age! The big move of the night...Jimmy finally rolled in the deep end?.FIRST TRY! That?s a hella big drop?1 1/2 foot vert into 9 1/2 foot transition! Jimmy did it again towards the end of the session just for good measure. Past that, he threw down some great lines with an ever growing bag of tricks. Happy birthday, Jimmy!

Wednesday Sept 19, 2007 - Old School Session night
Lots going on this Wednesday...new tricks, old tricks reborn...chills, spills, and thrills...new faces, surprise guests, old friends and good times. Let's see if I can remember it all...Wes was celebrating his 40th birthday and skating like it was HIS day...Roobs had a new found outlook (in more ways than one) now with his glasses gone and new contacts working great...Bam Bam and another ripper made their way from Nashville to skate...shallow end coping continues to wear faster than expected and was sooooo grippy due to lack of Salba Sauce/clear spray that you had to work for grinds...Zack had his frontside pivot stalls in the shallow locked down...Shawn Coffman re-learned Japan airs, repeated them till they were super tweaked and then took them to the hip...deep end was super slick and took out a few folks through the night...Thomas Taylor (and crew) showed up for the first time for a Wednesday session...Load started the night just killing it, but on one late run, he slid out and took what looked like a regular fall, but it pancaked his arm on the 'crete and looks to have broken his wrist...Raymondo broke out his new longboard in the bowl with trucks so loose he turns on a dime and double-doubles the shallow with ease...Jennifer's son learned backside 50-50s over the deathbox... Chris Coffman lost his chance to win $5 doing frontside lipslides in the shallow (next time, Chris! haha)...that's about all I can think of off hand. After Load's slam, the night kinda calmed down. Many from the session moved to the parking lot. In the end, it was just Shawn Coffman and I skating the bowl. After I finally called it a night with about 30 minutes left till close, Shawn decided to start trying Japan airs over the hip. He was trying one after another....getting them super tweaked and so close to landing...in the end, he had the determination to land them, but his body just wasn't willing any more. He'll get them next time. I packed up and said my good-byes...since I won't be back for two weeks (next week at home and the week after in Vegas). Another fun night at the park as always......and lastly, Load, heal up quick!
