I was working in town this week and hoped some folks would get together and revitalize our "old school/man" wednesday night session. I sent out the
word asking if any one was interested in skating Vestavia like in the past. Surprisingly, not only did I actually get some response for once, but the people wanting to
skate suggested we go hit Montgomery for their "old man" night instead. Cool! Soooo plans were made, rides arranged, and on Wednesday, we all headed downn. I rode with
Patrick Jackson, and we were the first to get down there. Later, Barry and Hosey showed up carrying Jay and his two sons. David "DC Photos" Campbell came out to
represent the Montgomery locals...though there were quite a few ripping local kids there too. We all had a great time skating the micro-mini ramp together. That ramp is just FUN FUN FUN!
The only down side was that the manager of the park insisted on playing the most God-awful music you have ever heard. It seriously sounded like someone took an electric guitar and just grinded
it up against a tree slowly for like 20 minutes!!! As Barry put it, "This must be the music they played to David Karesh (sp?) in Waco, Texas to make him and his followers kill themselves."
It was really terrible almost to the point of making you not want to even skate or be near that place. And like I said, the manager INSISTED on playing it. Somehow, we
finally convinved him to change it, and thankfully, he put on some good old tunes like Bad Brains. Well, we stayed and skated till the place closed. Actually, we stayed a bit
longer because I guess the manager knew we were from out of town. We thought they would close at 10pm, but they closed at 8....school hours or something. That was fine though
because we were all spent by then. Around 8:30, we loaded up, hit the road and trekked back home. This OS night was a success! |
