It was another Sunday out at the Train Station ditch. If you would have told me I would be spending 3 hours skating a ditch, I would have called you crazy, but that's
exactly what happened. I thought I would hit the ditch for a little while, get warmed up and then head off to skate the bowl in Alabaster. I never made it past the ditch!
Skating a fun, new spot with good friends sure makes the time pass fast. Tim Spinosi and I were first there followed soon after by Mark Leo and Patrick
Jackson. We spent the first little while cleaning up the ditch, sweeping, cutting back some weeds, placing a little piece of coping and planning out future "additions"
to the ditch. Then we got down to enjoying the fruits of our labor and the session got going. It was such a blast! We were all just getting stoked off of each other. Each
person would take their run and throw in some little surprise or try something out that the others hadn't considered yet. It soon became obvious to us all that we should
have just called this the "Patrick Jackon Ditch" because he was owning it! Patrick found the lines early and was working the whole ditch like he was skating a
bowl. No lie! Patrick figured out how to go down the ditch, work back up, head down a different line, and pretty much repeat until his legs just couldn't go any more. We
all took our notes, and soon found our own lines to work the ditch much the same. I will say that once we fill in a few bad cracks, it should be even easier to really
work the ditch all around....but that's just one of many things we have planned there. We had made the calls for a few more folks to join us, but maybe they can all come out
next weekend for the next work/skate session. |
