Got up early and out to Homewood skatepark around 11:30 am to meet Patrick Jackson there to skate. Right off, I knew something wasn't quite right when I dropped in the
first time. My balance was just off and I couldn't really "feel" my skateboard. Something was up...and would get worse through the day. But I persevered..."playing
through the pain" as they say (haha)....besides, it was BEAUTIFUL out! 65-ish and sunny! Since I wasn't really on at Homewood, I didn't really work on runs or any
tricks I had in mind. I just stuck to what I knew and tried to improve. Patrick was ripping, but he was having an equally rough day...lots of slams for some reason. I will
say he had backside ollie-to-tails dialed in! SMACK!...every time! We also had little Travis (Hosey's buddy) skating with us. He reminded us several times throug the session that
he was good friends with Hosey and that he skated for Steadham...little kids are funny. (haha) He was a little ripper and fun to watch though. Patrick's last slam was onto his already sore plam, so with that, he called it a day. It was near 2pm, and I
was ready to go too. Told Patrick and a few other Homewood locals good-bye and headed off to Alabaster to hit Vets. I arrived to find Eddings and Scott Hughston already
skating along with another of our *new* old guys (sorry, forget his name at the moment). Spinosi showed up pretty much right as I did. I took a few photos and padded up. After
a few runs, I was feeling even worse than before...started having aches from more than just skating...stomach, eyes, etc. I wanted to skate, but it wasn't happening today. I
could tell I must be coming down with something. Around 4 pm, I left as Scott and his family were leaving too. I think Eddings was done too...he was really banged up from some
falls over the past weeks....hippers, shin, etc. I felt so bad, I didn't even want a parking lot beer with Spinosi! Now that's BAD! (haha) Sure enough, I woke up Sunday
feeling MUCH worse. I must have caught something going around (flu, crud, cold, etc) after having dodged it for a good while now. Sunday was even more beautiful out, and I
could not even come close to skating. I felt like hell. I did manage to get out and rebuild my little 1/4-pipe, so maybe that kinda counts since it will help skating on another
day. At least, I had Saturday....looking forward to the next, like always! |
